The story

Leroy’s special sauce began as an idea from a local sub shop owner in Towanda, PA, more than 50 years ago.

“A whole lot of stuff goes into it, and it’s expensive to make,” says Leroy. “But the secret is hard work.”

In 1969, after several different versions and an untold number of taste tests by family and friends, Leroy’s special sauce recipe was finalized and the adventure began. Excitement grew around the sauce after it was a established as the customers’ favorite dressing at Leroy’s sub shop. From there, more customers wanted the sauce to keep at home so Leroy made his sauce available for retail. As the years passed and Leroy approached retirement, he wanted to make sure his sauce would be able to continue on.

Enter Dandy. Through many years of friendship and several different discussions, Dandy eventually took over exclusive rights to Leroy’s special sauce and currently offers it in all 64 Dandy stores across the Twin Tiers. The logo has been slightly updated and the bottles now hold 16oz of sauce, but everything else is pretty much the same.

Dandy is happy to carry on the local legacy of Leroy’s sauce and is proud to maintain the integrity of both the man and the sauce. Dandy looks forward to keeping the product available for our customers who already know and love Leroy’s sauce, while also offering it to a much larger audience across Pennsylvania and New York.
